We often have to do tasks for Olga the witch. We mix different coloured liquids, sort water beads into colours and count the right number of water beads into cyliders so that she can mix the ingredients together to make her potions. One day she sent us some dinosaur eggs and we worked together to melt the eggs so that the dinosaurs could hatch.

In Year R we have a number of the day. Different challenges are set so that the children are counting as they play. If the number of the day is number 10 then these are the sorts of challenges: Can you make a marble run with 10 crossovers? Can you make a Georello with 10 spinning cogs? Can you sort the water beads and collect 10 pots for Olga the witch? Can you build 10 bridges over the train track? Can you make a dinosaur in the playdoh with 10 spikes?
Lots and lots of counting as we play.
